The Bazi Model in Use: A Worked Example

Translator's note. A single case, told minute by minute, that shows the model doing what the theory claims. A colleague's sudden pain in the left lower back is read as an activated bing fire; the chain that follows predicts money arriving, and it names the day as the day the pain stops. The reading is given in the article as it was sent, before the event, which is the point.

The bazi model theory is a theory of bazi reading built on the relation between time, space and person. We all know that the ten heavenly stems and twelve earthly branches stand for time, for direction, for the things located in those directions, and for the parts, organs and functions of the human body. People born under the same bazi share a birth time, but the environments around them before and after birth need not be the same, and their living environments after birth certainly cannot be. So for any one bazi, all the stems and branches are identical for everyone born under it, and the luck cycles and annual cycles are identical too — yet the things located in the directions corresponding to each of those stems are not identical. That difference in the things at the same stem's direction manifests, through energy, in the bodily part, organ or function that the same stem also stands for. This is the necessary coupling of space, time and person. Those differences then show up, through the meaning of the stems, in the events of a person's life and fate. Therefore, by examining one bazi together with the particular person who bears it, we can judge the fate differences among all people born under that bazi with complete accuracy, and judge when any person will meet which auspicious or inauspicious event. Even twins — five-fold coincidences — differ greatly in fate, because after birth the things at each stem's direction in their living environment (directions taken from each individual as the centre point) are not the same. That is how the dialectic of time, environmental things and person determines the difference in fate. If bazi reading stares only at the time-nature of the stems and branches and ignores their directional nature, the nature of the things located in those directions, and the bodily part, organ and function they stand for, then bazi reading is a game with time, not a predictive art, and it can never truly read the fate of a person living in space and time. So: bazi reading is not a time-based predictive art, but a predictive art of time, space and person as one. The kind that speaks only of the time-nature of the bazi, never of its spatial or bodily nature, is in fact only a game of group-fate prediction.

When we read a bazi as the unity of time, space and person, judging the fate differences among people born under the same chart becomes as easy as turning the palm, and exact beyond comparison. We can rank people born under one bazi by the degree of good or ill in their official careers, wealth, emotions, lifespan and so on. And when we adjust feng shui to change a person's fate, we can adjust one particular aspect of one particular person's fate with great precision, and obtain results that verify on schedule.

On 7 September 2010 at 9:10 in the morning, Teacher Yang sent a message: “I woke up with terrible pain in my left lower back — how do you read that? My month pillar is jihai, my day pillar bingyin.” Teacher Yang had himself studied yixue deeply and wanted to test my bazi model theory. I replied: “Terrible pain in the left lower back: the bodily part corresponds to the stem bing. Terrible pain means bing fire is activated. Bing fire activated brings the day branch yin wood into motion, and the day branch is the seal. The seal activated means a happy event involving documents and seals — auspicious because yin is the useful god; if it were the unfavourable god it would be inauspicious. Yin and hai combine, so when yin moves hai moves too. Hai water, the month branch, is the officer-and-killer. The yin wood seal combines and holds the officer-and-killer hai water beneath the day master bing fire: killer and seal generate each other and then generate the body. The officer-and-killer hai water is the useful god, so there is a happy event of a benefactor's help. And when hai water is activated, the month stem ji earth is activated too. Ji earth activated is the eating-and-wounding activated. The eating-and-wounding is the source of wealth. The eating-and-wounding activated at the month stem, at the gate of the house, means money coming in, and a good deal of it. The timing will be the moment the back pain disappears.”

An hour later Teacher Yang wrote: “One piece of information did come. My superior told me to go back to Lanzhou to process a property certificate. It has not been possible for years, and now it can be done — but that is a matter of spending money, not receiving it.” I replied: “The property certificate is the document-and-seal matter, which is already verified; the superior is the benefactor notifying you, already verified. The money coming in will also verify. Wait a while.”

Then at 8:24 on the evening of 13 September, Teacher Yang wrote suddenly: “The pain in my back has just stopped today, and I was wondering why — this afternoon a disciple of mine offered a hundred thousand yuan to help me buy a house.”

Why did I say money would arrive when the pain stopped? Because the terrible pain in the left lower back was the day master bing activated, and bing moving had set the eating-and-wounding ji moving. Only when bing fire comes to rest can bing fire obtain the wealth of ji earth, the eating-and-wounding. When bing fire rests — when the back stops hurting — the money comes. And the amount is relatively large because the pain was terrible; had the pain been slight, the money would have been small. That is a reflection of the quantity of energy. This is an example of prediction using the relation between time and the functional state of a bodily part, and it is a very small application of the bazi model theory. I hope friends in yixue will take something from it.

The bazi model theory solves once and for all the age-old problem of predicting the differing fates of people born under the same bazi. It pulls bazi reading out of a purely temporal theoretical system and into the actual world in which a person lives in space and time — and so places bazi reading on the platform of “time, space and person.”
